« London Tuesdays | Main | it's my birthday »
some good news
I've discovered that the camera can indeed work, if plugged into the mains. Not very convenient, but at least enabled me to download yesterday's bounty.
I was heading toward Bloomsbury when I noticed this guy:
Cara gave me a heads up about another in Covent Garden. I wonder what happens if I collect the whole set?
The plan was to head toward a brilliant sign I'd sped by many times before. I usually do this from a different direction, so had to guess my way there. And that's how I found Bedford Square.
I'm know London is full of these squares, but stumbling upon unexpectedly is always such a thrill! As seems to be the custom, the U75 folk have been there before, and with better pix. Have a look at their panorama here.
This door is my idea of prefection (if I were to find myself owning a Georgian house, of course). I love the promise such a grand entrance brings.
More information on Bedford Square and it's garden/lack of access at city of sound.
The building I was heading toward is the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. I cycle past this sign on the route home from Selfridges.
I had never paused to look at anything more than the sign. I'm not sure if it was because I was too busy giggling at the thought of washing hands and mosquitos being taught within, or concentrating on balancing over-full Selfridges bags on my handlebars.
Yesterday I came at it from a different angle. And this is why I love my London Tuesdays - I would never have seen the detail:
There are bugs! Bugs on all the balconies!

I love the School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. I studied round the corner from there for a couple of years. Did you spot that it boasts street signs in gold (to match the bugs)? Very swish.

I actually spotted the School of Hygiene, etc, the very first time I came to London -- stayed just around the corner. Made me laugh too, and I love the gold bugs.

I remember Bedford Square because I lived in Bloomsbury in 1988-89. I went back a few years ago, and everything's more or less the same, it's wonderful!

Can it be true. Is there really a building in London with BRUCE embossed in the top right-hand corner?
